BEND, OR -- Four years after an investigation started into what prosecutors call a real estate scheme, Tami and Kevin Sawyer go on trial in federal court in Eugene Tuesday. Tami, a former real estate broker, and Kevin, a former Bend PD captain, are accused of siphoning investment money for their own use. Investigators said the two bilked investors for $4 million, which was used to pay personal bills, car payments and buy a vacation home in Mexico. They face fraud, money laundering and other charges.
The trial is expected to last two weeks.
